In raw boulder form, many stones appear similar. This image shows one Austin boulder (far right) and several pieces of Lueders rock. The only noticable difference is the cream undertones of the Austin stone. When installed, the differences are much more appearant. Still, it is common to confuse the two. Do not be fooled. Each stone has its own unique properties including density and performance in different climates.
For comparison: Lueders Buff (sawed and split) installed:
and Austin Cream (sawed and split) installed:
The visual (color) difference in the outcome is a result of the exposed core of the actual rock. The Austin stone appears much warmer when core pieces are exposed. The Lueders reveals a cooler gray tone with variation across all faces. Which do you prefer?
